Antipyretic potential of methanol extract of bark of Strychnos colubrina L. was investigated. The dried bar of Strychnos colubrina L. was extracted with methanol. The antipyretic effects of extracts of bark of Strychnos colubrina L. were investigated at doses 100 and 250 mg/kg b.w. using yeast induced pyrexia in rats. Strychnos colubrina L. extracts produced significant (P<0.05) dose-dependent reduction in hyperpyrexia in rats throughout the observation period of 5 hrs. The results of present study suggest that extracts of Strychnos colubrina L. possess potent antipyretic effects and could serve as a base for future drugs....
The aim of this study was to develop topical spray formulation for wound healing, which would form clear transparent film at the site of application. Squalene is polyunsaturated triterpene. Squalene has many activities such as anti-oxidant, emollient, anti-cancer and skin hydration. Spray formulations contain Eudragit-L-100 as film forming polymer, polyethylene glycol-6000 as plasticizer for good plasticity of film, ethanol as a solvent and iso-propyl alcohol used for dissolving squalene. Different concentrations of squalene were added in formulation to improve wound healing activity. Formulations were filled in plastic container fitted with spray valve. Formulations were evaluated for different parameters such as delivery rate, net weight, leakage rate, spray pattern, etc. An in-vivo excision wound model on rat showed that wound excision was completely healed by 0.3% squalene spray formulation in 18 days. But 0.2% squalene and 0.3% squalene spray formulations doesn’t show significant difference for wound healing activity....
Ayurveda has achieved phenomenal recognition and acceptance in the recent years. Scrutiny of various Ayurvedic principles in light of modern principles can unravel hidden physiological concepts in them. For the treatment of various diseases Ayurveda nurtures two notions viz. Sodhana and Shamana. Shodhana therapy is unique therapy which is meant for evacuation of dosha from the body. Kshetrikarana (Panchkarma) is a synonym used in the classical texts of Rasashastra for shodhana therapy. Ancient scholars of Rasashastra always give emphasis on Kshetrikarana therapy especially for Rasayana (Rejuvenation) treatment. Rasayana therapy is successfully achieved with the help of Rasaushadhis (Herbo-mineralo-metallic formulations) after Kshetrikarana process. Rasaushadhis play important role in Ayurvedic therapeutics because of their qualities like Alpamatropayogitvat (low dose), Arucher-aprasangata (good palatability) and Kshipramarogayadayitvat (fast acting). In classics of Rasashastra, Kshetrikarana includes Pachana, Snehan, Swedana, Vaman and Virechana. Without Kshetrikarana, Rasaushadhis did not distribute all over body as a result it will cause complications during Rasayana treatment. So, it is necessary to do Kshetrikarana process in Rasayana treatment with the help of Rasaushadhis....
